Compulsory microchipping

Microchipping is now compulsory.

A Stockton dog owner has recently been fined nearly £400 for not having her dogs microchip details up to date.

As of 6th April 2016, it is a legal requirement that all dogs are microchipped. You may have already had your dog chipped in the past, but please remember it is also a legal requirement that your details are up to date.

Having your dog microchipped is one of the best ways to improve your pet’s chances of getting home. Unlike dog tags and collars, which can fall off or be removed, microchipping is a more permanent form of identifying your dog. But don’t forget the law says all dogs must wear a collar and tag, with their owner’s name, address and telephone number on it.
