EMS Placements and New Graduate Programme

Blythman & Partners Ltd are proud to be supporting the next generation of veterinary professionals with our EMS placements and New Graduate Programme.

As a large, family run, independent,  mixed first opinion veterinary practice based in the heart of the North East, we are able to offer students experience and knowledge in a wide range of animal species.

Our practices are well equipped with digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, dental equipment, ECG and extensive in-house lab facilities.

EMS placements are open to veterinary students in their final two years of study and we welcome enthusiastic, hard working, focused individuals to apply.

Become a member of our team and put your knowledge and skills into practice. In return you will gain valuable experience and insight into real life in-practice.

During your placement you will have support from our extensive veterinary team and the opportunity to observe and be involved in as many practical aspects of veterinary care as possible:

  • Animal handling
  • Physical examinations
  • Blood sampling and testing
  • IV catheter placement
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Anaesthetic monitoring
  • Witnessing and scrubbing into surgical procedures
  • Working up new and existing cases
  • In-patient care
  • Communication with clients and the wider veterinary team

For guidance during your placement, you will be provided with a skills list to complete helping you get the most out of your time with us.

EMS placements are a minimum of 1 week, but can be up to 4 weeks. Hours are between 8am – 6pm, Monday – Friday with an evening on call each week to experience our emergency out of hours cases. This leaves your weekends free to explore some of the sites the city and surrounding area is renowned for.

Accommodation which is fully furnished, a company car and your lunch are provided free for the duration of your stay.

Successful EMS placement students that have demonstrated their commitment to providing exceptional veterinary care, and a keen interest in working with us in the future, may be offered the opportunity to join our list for our New Graduate Programme. The directors will choose candidate/s from the short-list to join our New graduate programme following successful graduation.

The aim of our New Graduate Programme is to continue to support you through your first few years in-practice and beyond!

Our two year New Graduate Programme gives you the opportunity to work in a large, family run, independent, mixed first opinion veterinary practice, dealing with a range of animal species.

We have a number of RCVS accredited sites across the heart of the North East and hospital status at our main site. Our well equipped sites are able to offer our patients the best veterinary care 24/7.

You will have support from all members of our veterinary team, working daily alongside our experienced vets and nurses to help you transition from student to qualified vet.

We can accommodate flexible start dates to join our team, and some of the benefits you can look forward are:

  • Starting salary £34,500K 4 day week or £39K 5 day week
  • The chance to go to Spain to volunteer at a neuter clinic (subject to availability)
  • 6 weeks annual leave excluding bank holidays (holiday increases after 3 years of employment by 1 week)
  • Birthday given off (on successful completion of 6 month probationary review)
  • 4 or 5 day working week (Monday – Friday 8am – 6:30pm).
  • Saturday morning 1:6 rota (8:30am – 2pm)
  • First on call: 1 night a week (OOH support provided by dedicated night nurse on site and 2nd vet on call).
  • Weekend on call 1:6 rota (Saturday 8am – Monday 8am).

1st and 2nd on call split between the two vets working over the weekend.

In the week following your on call weekend, you will have no on call week night to cover and receive a day off that week to give you a long weekend off.

  • Professional RCVS and VDS memberships paid.
  • VISA funding and sponsorship (commitment to at least 2 years required)

  • 6 month review, following successful completion of 6 month probationary period; profit sharing scheme added on to monthly salary

  • Year 2 review, salary increases and automatic transfer to 2nd on call for weekday nights.
