RCVS accreditation and Gosforth’s hospital status

We are proud to announce that our Gosforth practice has been awarded hospital status by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and all of our other surgeries are RCVS-accredited. But what does that mean to you?

Hospital status

In order to obtain veterinary hospital status for small animals or equine patients, a veterinary practice must meet the RCVS’ Core Standards, plus those of the relevant General Practice. However, it must also:

  • Ensure nursing staff are present on the premises round the clock, and a veterinary surgeon available 24 hours a day to attend to in-patients, if required
  • Maintain and improve clinical standards by monitoring performance and the outcome of treatments
  • Provide a range of specialist equipment, such as specific diagnostic equipment (ECG and ultrasound)
  • Submit to rigorous examination of its premises and facilities, with emphasis on cleanliness and sterility

In short, the standards of the staff, the equipment and the premises must be exceedingly high in order to pass the numerous inspections and satisfy the RCVS. As clients of Blythman & Partners, you can rest assured that your pet is in very capable hands and being treated in the best possible environment, day or night.

RCVS accreditation

All of our branches have RCVS accreditation, meeting the body’s set standards regarding training, monitoring, equipment and hygiene. To achieve this accreditation, the named practices have all demonstrated an ongoing commitment to training and education, devised a system for the monitoring of treatment and gained access to laboratory facilities for diagnostic testing.

In short, all of our veterinary branches adhere to the standards and practices of the industry’s regulatory body, providing the necessary environment and expertise to get your pet back on the mend.
